How Solar Works

Solar energy is the most abundant source of energy in the world, yet it comprises a tiny fraction of Ontario's electricity production. Helios Energy is working to change that.

There are many advantages of rooftop solar energy:

  • Safe and proven technology
  • Zero emissions from production
  • Minimal noise and visual impact
  • All-season operation
  • No impact on wildlife
  • Minimal maintenance requirements
  • Short installation time
  • Long-lasting (25-year warranties)
  • No roof penetration required

The most common way of harnessing the sun’s energy is through photovoltaic (PV) solar panels.  The panels comprise many solar cells, each of which is made of a semiconductor (often silicon) that converts solar radiation into direct current electricity.  The direct current electricity is then turned into alternating current electricity for use by our homes and businesses.
