Helios Management Team

The accomplished leadership team at Helios Energy brings together professionals with extensive solar industry experience, as well as a broad set of outside perspectives. Collectively, this group has experience in engineering, finance, operations, strategy and project management.

Jarret Stuart
Principal

Jarret’s primary focus at Helios is on project design and engineering, utility interconnection and supplier relationships.

Prior to founding Helios in 2006, Jarret worked in the engineering industry with Fluor Canada. In this role Jarret acted as Project Manager on multi-billion dollar projects for Alcoa, Opti-Nexen and others in a variety of locations around the world.  Jarret’s experience in Project Controls and Project Management in the fields of oil and gas, industrials and infrastructure have given him a broad range of skills from detailed procedure execution to reporting, forecasting and project scope control.

David Anderson
Principal

David’s primary focus is on project development, project financing and supplier relationships.

David has been an active member of the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) since 2007 and is a founding member of the Ontario Solar PV Caucus, focusing on advancing Ontario’s solar energy policies. In addition to the 2008 and 2009 CanSIA conferences, David has been invited to speak about Ontario’s solar market at events in Spain, Portugal and many municipalities throughout the province.

Prior to Helios Energy, David worked in the investment banking industry at Citigroup in New York and Sprott Securities in Toronto.

Winston Bennett, CFA
Vice-President & Director

Winston is primarily focused on corporate and project finance and strategic development.

Prior to joining Helios, Winston was a Vice President of Investment Banking at Cormark Securities Inc. (formerly Sprott Securities Inc.), a leading independent investment dealer in Canada. In this role, Winston was involved in public and private equity transactions, structuring corporate and project debt offerings and negotiating mergers and acquisitions.

Ian Black
Director, Rooftop Solar

Ian’s focus at Helios is building rooftop leasing partnerships and project development.

Prior to joining Helios, Ian worked as a strategy consultant based in the Toronto and New York offices of Bain & Company, a leading global consultancy. At Bain, Ian worked with clients on issues of operations improvement, growth strategy, and profitability. Previously, Ian was VP Operations of a 500-employee mission-driven organization.

Ian graduated from Queen’s University where he studied economics.

Fraser Stark
Director, Rooftop Solar

Fraser’s focus at Helios is building rooftop leasing partnerships and project development.

Prior to joining Helios Energy, Fraser worked as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company in Toronto, with clients across a variety of industries and issues around North America.  He also worked in real estate development with Intrawest, an international resort developer and operator.  His involvement in the solar industry began in 2005, advising a small business in California on a rooftop PV system, and he subsequently consulted to a Menlo Park, CA solar technology startup on supply chain issues.

Fraser holds an undergraduate business degree from Ivey (UWO), and an MBA from Stanford.

Michelle Bird
Design Manager

Michelle, in her role as Design Manager, provides system design & project management for rooftop solar PV projects. In this capacity, Michelle focuses on optimizing PV system production and overseeing all construction-related aspects of rooftop system deployment.

Michelle brings a background of research in spatial analysis and digital mapping, which has aided Helios in the identification and development of large scale solar projects. Michelle is currently finalizing the requirements to obtain the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, an industry-recognized certification of excellence in PV system design & installation.
